Last checked: 29 August 2026. This page explains NDIS household tasks support in general terms. It is not a promise that funding will be included in a participant's plan, and the national price limits below are not a quote from Horizons.
If the washing is piling up, the kitchen is hard to use safely, or a pathway at the front door is getting risky, that is often a Core support question. It is not automatically a private cleaning bill you have to swallow. This page explains what NDIS household tasks funding usually covers, how it differs from personal care, and where Horizons Support Network can help self-managed and plan-managed Brisbane families.
The NDIS decides what is funded. A provider delivers support that already sits in the plan.
What household tasks support actually means
Household tasks support is disability-related help with the upkeep of the home, not with the person's body. In practice that can include cleaning kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces, laundry and linen changes, light meal preparation (the worker's time, not the groceries), grocery shopping with support, keeping pathways clear, and basic yard or access upkeep where safety is affected.
The NDIS usually funds this from Core Supports, under Assistance with Daily Life. That is the same budget family as daily personal activities, but it is a different kind of help. Official NDIS guidance on what Core supports are describes Core as the everyday budget for help with daily life. The NDIA still decides what is reasonable and necessary for each person.
Two line-item groups show up a lot on invoices, and they are not the same number:
- Assistance with Personal Domestic Activities (support item
01_004_0107_1_1) is the everyday domestic help many families mean when they say "help in the house." - House Cleaning And Other Household Activities (
01_020_0120_1_1) and House or Yard Maintenance (01_019_0120_1_1) sit in the household-tasks registration group (0120).
A provider should describe the support that was actually delivered and use the line that matches the current plan. Guessing the code after the visit is how invoices get messy.
If the aim is learning the skill over time (cooking, budgeting, keeping a routine), that leans toward independent living skills. For everyday practice examples, read our guide to building independent living skills with NDIS support in Brisbane. If the visit is mostly meals, our cooking and meal preparation guide is the closer read. For the wider Assistance with Daily Life category, start with what NDIS funds for assistance with daily life.
How this differs from personal care
Daily personal activities are about the person: showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, moving safely. Household tasks are about the home: cleaning, laundry, meals, shopping, a safe path through the house.
A worker can do both in one visit. The service agreement and the notes should still say which part was which, because the NDIS treats them as different supports. If you are unsure which way your week leans, we can talk it through against the plan you actually have. We cannot tell the NDIA what to fund.
What this funding does not pay for
The NDIS funds the disability-related support. It does not fund ordinary living costs. Rent, groceries, household bills, major structural repairs, heavy landscaping, pest control and pool maintenance sit outside the scheme. Official guidance on reasonable and necessary supports is the test the NDIA applies. A type of help that is funded for one participant is not automatically funded for another.
It also does not pay for Support Coordination, SIL, clinical or therapy services, or a private cleaner billed as if it were NDIS support when the plan does not include it. Horizons does not sell those things, and we will not dress household help up as something it is not.
What official price limits look like in 2026-27
The NDIA publishes national price limits. They are ceilings, not a quote from Horizons, and the agreed rate is always confirmed in the service agreement before support starts. Limits change with the support item, time of day and whether the area is remote.
From the NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27 (effective 1 July 2026), weekday national limits for the common household line items are:
- Assistance with Personal Domestic Activities (
01_004_0107_1_1): $61.16 an hour (remote $85.62, very remote $91.74) - House Cleaning And Other Household Activities (
01_020_0120_1_1): $60.10 an hour (remote $84.14, very remote $90.15) - House or Yard Maintenance (
01_019_0120_1_1): $59.01 an hour (remote $82.61, very remote $88.52)
Check the current Pricing Arrangements page, because the figures update. Brisbane is not a remote area in that schedule. For the 2026-27 schedule name, plan-managed vs self-managed rules, and why 1 October is not a price change, read What the NDIS pricing schedule is in 2026.
Self-managed and plan-managed participants can usually choose a non-registered provider when the support fits the plan. Registration is not a requirement for this kind of everyday support-worker help. Horizons cannot support NDIA-managed funding.
How families usually get this into a plan
Raise the need with the participant's NDIS contact at planning or a plan reassessment. Useful evidence is practical: which tasks have become unsafe or unmanageable because of disability, what happens if informal supports cannot keep doing them, and what a regular visit would change. A two-week note of specific incidents (the task, what went wrong, how long it took) is often clearer than a general "we need help with housework."
You do not have to engage a Support Coordinator to ask. If Support Coordination is already funded, that person can help implement the arrangement once the funded scope is clear. A plan manager can help with budget, invoices and payment administration. The NDIA still decides eligibility and funding.
If the household support is also giving a carer a real daytime break while the participant stays home, read A break that stays at home. Overnight time apart sits on our Short Term Respite page.
Who Horizons is, and who we are not
Horizons Support Network is a family-run, Brisbane-based team. We keep the same named workers where we can, we listen first, and we shape support around the life someone actually lives. We are a non-registered NDIS provider for self-managed and plan-managed participants only.
We do provide daily personal activities, independent living skills, social and community participation, and planned Short Term Respite when it matches the funded plan and service agreement. Household help at home sits in that everyday work: a consistent person who already knows the kitchen, the laundry, and how the participant likes the day to run.
We do not provide Support Coordination, plan management, Supported Independent Living (SIL), assisted living as SIL, clinical or nursing care, palliative care, 24/7 medical cover, high-intensity clinical supports, or support for NDIA-managed participants. We cannot decide or guarantee what the NDIA will fund.
If we are not the right fit, we will say so in the first conversation. Check current support availability for Brisbane and nearby suburbs, or browse the rest of the resource library.
Talk it through
If help with the house would make the week safer and more liveable, make an enquiry or call 0450 780 086. A real person replies within one business day. There is no pressure and no obligation, just a clear conversation about the plan, the routine and whether we have the right worker near you.
