Accessibility Statement
We are committed to making this website usable by everyone. It is built to WCAG 2.1 AA, with semantic HTML, strong contrast, keyboard navigation and the highly legible Atkinson Hyperlegible typeface.
Accessibility matters to us. Horizons Support Network works alongside people with disability, so a website that everyone can use is not a nice-to-have; it is the whole point. We are committed to making this site usable by as many people as possible, whatever their abilities or the technology they use.
The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the internationally recognised standard for accessible websites. We treat AA as our target and design and test against it as we build and update the site.
What we have built in
These are some of the concrete things we have done to make this website more accessible:
- Semantic, well-structured HTML: proper headings, landmarks and labels so screen readers and other assistive technology can make sense of each page.
- Strong colour contrast: text and backgrounds chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast levels so content stays readable.
- Full keyboard navigation: you can move through links, buttons and forms using a keyboard alone, with visible focus so you always know where you are.
- Descriptive alt text: meaningful images carry text alternatives, and decorative images are marked so assistive technology can skip them.
- A highly legible typeface: body text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed specifically to be easier to read for people with low vision.
- Responsive, mobile-friendly layout: the site adapts to phones, tablets and desktops, and text can be enlarged without breaking the layout.
- Respect for reduced motion: if you have set your device to reduce motion, we honour that and tone down animations.
Known limitations and ongoing work
We are honest that no website is ever perfectly accessible, and ours is a work in progress. Some content may not yet fully meet our target, for example third-party content or embedded tools that we do not fully control.
We review the site regularly, fix issues as we find them, and keep accessibility front of mind whenever we add new pages or features. If you come across a barrier we have not caught, telling us helps us fix it faster.
Tell us about a problem, or ask for another format
If you have trouble using any part of this website, or you would like information from it in another format such as large print, plain text, or read aloud over the phone, please get in touch. We will do our best to help and to provide what you need in a way that works for you.
